I usually have a very difficult time with these exercises
because my mind wanders and I have too much other stuff on my mind. However, I
have been extremely sick for the past 48 hours. My husband, our 4 year old and
me all got a nasty stomach bug so I have been focusing even less. I was laying
on my couch with my eyes shut and almost fell asleep a few times. There were
long periods of silence where my mind wandered and this made it even more
difficult. I gave it a couple tries. I figured the illness was making me les
cooperative but I think I got through it because of the illness. I would rather
sit here and listen to the rain falling outside and clear my mind that way.
A mental workout is to help improve psychological health. This
can help a person excel when it comes to integral health. I would have to do a
mental workout late at night when bot my kids are asleep. My household is way
too chaotic to have any time alone to do mental workouts even if they would be
beneficial in the long run.
Jill,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all sorry to hear that you and your family is sick. I have been fighting something for about a week and a half now, so I feel you. I also understand how hard it can be to find quietness to be able to practice these exercises. I have been doing them on Tuesday nights at like 11 when everyone is sleeping. Unfortunately that does not give me much time to actually take my time and practice them. Plus I am usually cramming to get the rest of my school work in on time and am exhausted. I do think that it is important for us to be able to make that time for ourselves. If we do not take care of ourselves how are we suppose to take care of others. Also, it is a good thing for our children to see that it is important to take care of ourselves.

Jill,
ReplyDeleteCertainly hope that no more illnesses have passed through your hope. I also have 2 kids in the house, so quiet time is a rare commodity around my house as well. Taking advantage of time after the kids to go bed is a great idea. But that is also when I find myself the most productive, so taking time to sit and relax is hard, especially when I know I could be doing something else. However, I know that it is important, so I do what I can.
Hi Jill, good job on trying this exercise in time of sickness! Mental workouts, such as listening to the rain and clearing your mind, is great for your psychological well-being because it forces you to focus on what you are truly feeling inside. A lot of times people are fearful of self reflecting through mental workouts because so much is pushed further and further into our subconsciousness. Mental workouts help us to face our fears and find peace of mind.
